Summary:

In September 2014 the European Commission presented a package of proposals on veterinary medicines and medicated feed, which aim to improve animal health and public health, as well as the internal market.

Further information:

The Animal Medicines Package includes the following legislative proposals:

Proposal for a Regulation on the manufacture, placing on the market and use of medicated feed

Proposal to amend Regulation (EC) No 726/2004 laying down Community procedures for the authorisation and supervision of medicinal products for human and veterinary use and establishing a European Medicines Agency

Proposal for a Regulation on veterinary medicinal products

The proposal on veterinary medicinal products aims in particular to make more medicines available in the European Union to treat and prevent diseases in animals. The proposal on the modernisation of medicated feed legislation includes feed for pets in its scope. The idea is to ensure the appropriate standard of product quality and safety in the EU, whilst simultaneously paving the way for better treatments for diseased animals.
