Background and further information:

This Platform was set up to support and advise the European Commission on delivering the Development Goals at EU level and aims to provide a forum for exchange of best practice at local, regional, national and EU level.

The creation of the Platform was announced in the Commission's Communication on next steps for a sustainable European future, adopted on 22 November 2016. The subsequent selection process, launched by the Commission on 22 May 2017 sought an inclusive and balanced stakeholder representation, including civil society, non-governmental organisations and the private and corporate sector, and covering the social, economic and environmental as well as the internal and external policy dimensions of sustainable development.

The European Commission presented on 12 October 2017 the list of 30 members appointed to a high-level multi-stakeholder platform to follow up on the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals in the European Union (EU).
