Council adopts directive to better protect EU finances

On 25 April 2017, the General Affairs Council adopted a directive on the protection of the financial interests of the EU, also known as PIF Directive, meant to improve investigation and prosecution of crimes against EU finances. Once voted by the Parliament, the directive would be published in the Official Journal and member states have 24 months to implement the provisions at national level.
