Abstract:

Members states of the European Union adopted a negotiating mandate for an economic and free trade agreement with Canada on 27 April 2009. This agreement would go beyond current WTO commitments and reinforce the bilateral trade and investment relationship.

Negotiations led by the European Commission were expected to be officially launched at the EU-Canada Summit being held on 9 May 2009.
