Cyprus’s reunification on the rocks?

Features published before that date are still available via an archive website (see related url hyperlinks).UN special advisor Espen Barth Eide broke off the Cyprus talks on the 26 May 2017, for the time being, on the grounds that the chief negotiators on both sides had been unable to agree on the formalities of a summit on the reunification of the island, which had been divided since 1974.

Both sides were shirking responsibility, commentators wrote, but they still hoped a solution can be found.

Following a meeting with the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced on the 5 June 2017 that they had agreed on the need to reconvene the Conference on Cyprus later in June 2017, in line with the 12 January 2017 statement of the conference.
