Debate on state of play in Turkey following constitutional referendum

The European Parliament's plenary session held a debate on 26 April 2017 on the situation in Turkey following a constitutional referendum on the 16 April 2017 and the overal relations of the country with the European Union. The discussion was attended by the European Commissioner for Enlargement.

Some MEPs showed their concern over the outcome of the referendum, which provided the country's President with sweeping powers. Others called for a reassessment of the relations between the EU and Turkey, finding it unlikely the country would ever join the bloc.
