Feature discusses proposals being compiled by the western European nuclear regulators' association for stress tests to be carried at nuclear power plants in Europe, the centrepiece of the European Union’s plan to ensure the safety of its 143 nuclear plants after Japan’s Fukushima crisis.

It was also reported that Japan’s Fukushima nuclear disaster earlier in 2011 had triggered a sharp increase in worry across the European Union about the safety of nuclear power, according to a new Harris poll commissioned by the Financial Times and published in May 2011.
