Erdogan loses court battle against Axel Springer CEO

A German court threw out on 21 June 2016 an appeal by Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to obtain an injunction against the head of media giant Axel Springer, Mathias Döpfner, after he expressed support for satirist Jan Böhmermann.

Mr Döpfner had published an open letter in which he defended Mr Böhmermann, following an episode which triggered a diplomatic crisis between Turkey and Germany.
