Ethnic German candidate brings suspense to Romania’s presidential race

Previews and reports on the Romanian presidential election taking place in November 2014.

According to opinion polls released in August, Klaus Iohannis, an ethnic German and candidate for President of the centre-right Romanian coalition PNL-PDL, would face the leftist Prime Minister Victor Ponta at the second round of the presidential election. Other polls also indicated the possibility of a low turnout for this election.
