EU calls on Gabon to produce ‘speedy and transparent’ election result

Election observers sent by the European Union called on Gabon's electoral commission to ensure votes were counted 'with transparency and speed' following a presidential election where incumbent Ali Bongo was hoping for a second term.

Mr Bongo sought to emerge from the shadow of his father, Omar Bongo, who ruled Gabon for 41 years until he died in 2009.
