Election observers sent by the European Union called on Gabon's electoral commission to ensure votes were counted 'with transparency and speed' following a presidential election where incumbent Ali Bongo was hoping for a second term. Mr Bongo sought to emerge from the shadow of his father, Omar Bongo, who ruled Gabon for 41 years until he died in 2009. |
