European Commission adopts the European Disability Strategy 2010-2020

The European Commission adopted on 15 November 2010 its European Disability Strategy for the period 2010-2020. The plan outlines how the EU and national governments can empower people with disabilities so they can enjoy their rights.

The strategy presented by the Commission was seen as a renewal of the EU's commitment to improve the situation of European with disabilities. It aimed to complement and support action by the Member States which have the main responsibility in disability policies. The document also poins out the Commission's intention to assess whether to propose a 'European Accessibility Act' to further develop the Single Market for accessible products and services.
