European Parliament lifts immunity of PES President Stanishev

The European Parliament lifted the immunity of Sergei Stanishev, a Bulgarian member of the chamber. Mr Stanishev, a former Bulgarian prime minister, is also the President of the Party of European Socialists.

The decision would allow his country to prosecute him over allegedly losing secret documents. Mr Stanishev was charged in July 2010 with losing documents containing state secrets.
