On 10 August 2012 the Prime Minister of Finland proposed a European crisis fund financed by the banking sector. The aim of the fund is to recapitalise banks in trouble and it constitutes a part of Europe's plans for a banking union to tighten supervision.

The Prime Minister of Finland, which is one of only four remaining eurozone members with a triple A rating, said that the European Union should fully implement the recently made decisions to establish closer fiscal union.
