Frontex mission to extend just beyond Italian waters

The European Commission announced on the 7 October 2014 that from 1 November 2014 the Frontex coordinated joint operation 'Triton' would start its activity in the Central Mediterranean in support of the Italian efforts to deal with a surge of migrants trying to reach the European continent by boat from North Africa.
