Previews and reports of the G8 Summit meeting in Lough Erne (UK) on 17-18 June 2013. The United Kingdom, who was holding the annual G8 presidency for 2013, had set out three main topics for their G8 presidency: trade, taxation and transparency ('the three Ts'). The three Ts featured high on the summit's agenda together with discussions of the global economy and foreign and security policy. In an interview from the 15 June 2013 security expert, Hans-Georg Ehrhart, tells Deutsche Welle that, even if G8 nations agree to a British proposal to stop paying for the release of kidnapping victims, other groups will likely keep forking out ransoms to protect staff. On the 17 June 2013 US President Barack Obama has delivered a speech in Belfast ahead of the two-day G8 summit in Northern Ireland. |
