Gibraltar – European Commission President’s phone conversation with Spanish Prime Minister

European Commission President José Manuel Durão Barroso and the Prime Minister of the Spanish Government Mariano Rajoy spoke on the telephone on the 19 August 2013 on the Gibraltar issue. They agreed that a Commission fact finding mission should as soon as possible examine in loco the border control / movement of people and goods questions.

President Barroso expressed his hope that Spain and the United Kingdom would address these matters in a way that is in line with their common membership in the EU.
