Greece’s official jobless rate hit another record in June 2012, in statistics published by Elstat on the 6 september 2012. Unemployment climbed to 24.4% from 23.1% in May, with 1.2m people out of work. The numbers underscored the effect on the country’s private sector of two years of harsh austerity aimed at bringing the budget deficit under control.
