Report of a televised debate on the 1 September 2013 between the Germany's two main candidates for chancellor Angela Merkel and Peer Steinbrück in the forthcoming elections in Germany.

The debate mostly revolved around domestic topics, with some tense exchanges on the US spying scandal and the eurozone crisis.
