Background and further information
Iceland's ruling coalition collapsed on the 15 September 2017 over anger at a paedophile scandal. The Icelandic Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson' called the country's second snap election in two years - the previous one had been held on the 29 October 2016.

On the 18 September 2017 it was announced the election would be held on the 28 October 2017.
