In a first, Greek, Turkish Cypriot leaders give holiday message of peace

The Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders delivered a joint televised address on the 24 December 2015 wishing the ethnically divided island a happy holidays and peace in the New Year. Following an intensive period of negotiations there was some optimism that the two sides were on the cusp of reuniting the island.

The messages restated their commitment to reach a peace deal as negotiations entered their eighth month.
