Informal agreement between the Council and the Parliament on a draft directive concerning long-term shareholder engagement

	The Council of the European Union and the European Parliament reached on 9 December 2016 an informal agreement regarding the a draft proposal to strengthen shareholders engagement in big European companies. The agreed text was set to encourage transparent and active engagement by shareholders of listed companies through a revision of the existing Shareholders' Rights Directive (2007/36/EC). The proposal was released by the European Commission in April 2014 and the Parliament adopted its negotiating position in July 2015.
