Ireland: Parliamentary Election, 25 February 2011: Irish elections are set for February 25

On 1 February 2011 it was announced that there would be a general election in Ireland on 25 February 2011.

The three-week campaign was set to focus on the collapse of the economy, with the minority Fianna Fail government expected to be swept from power after presiding over a humiliating €85bn bail-out by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund in November 2010.
