Angelino Alfano, the Italian minister who in 2011 was anointed as Silvio Berlusconi’s heir apparent split with his former mentor and formed a breakaway group in November 2013. Interior Minister and Deputy Premier Alfano announced the creation of a new group, initially called the New Centre-Right on the 15 November 2013, and declared that he was unable to join Berlusconi’s Forza Italia party which was to be relaunched on the 16 November 2013. |
