The European Court of Justice gave its judgment in Case C-72/15 Rosneft on the 28 March 2017, following a call for a preliminary ruling from the UK High Court.

The restrictive measures adopted by the Council of the European Union in response to the crisis in Ukraine against certain Russian undertakings, including Rosneft, are valid. The Court of Justice has jurisdiction to give preliminary rulings on the legality of restrictive measures against individuals or entities in the context of the Common Foreign and Security policy.
