Thousands demonstrated on 9 January 2016 in Kosovo's capital Pristina in opposition to recent agreement with Serbia and Montenegro, designed to normalise relations between the two sides. The agreement was signed under the auspices of the European Union and included more autonomy for the Serb population in Kosovo's northern region.

Some protests turned into violence when a small group launched molotov cocktails cocktails and set fire to the main government seat in the capital city.
