Latvia elects staunch NATO supporter as President

Latvia's parliament elected on 03 June 2015 the defence minister Raimonds Vejonis as the country's president.

Mr Vejonis was said to be an outspoken critic of Russian actions over Ukraine and a supporter of a greater NATO presence in the Baltics. He was also set to be 28-member European Union's first Green Party head of state.
