The European Commission adopted on 26 October 2016 a Communication on a Space Strategy for Europe. The proposal aims to foster new services and promote the Europe's leadership in speace through in a new policy.

Under the Article 189 of the Treaty (TFEU), the Commission proposed a new Space strategy for Europe focused on four strategic goals:

+ Making the most of space for our society and economy;
+ Fostering a competitive and innovative European space sector;
+ Maintaining Europe's strategic autonomy;
+ Strengthening its global role in space.
