On 10 October 2013 the European Parliament adopted a Commission's proposal for a Regulation establishing the European Border Surveillance System (EUROSUR).

EUROSUR aims preventing and tackling serious crime, such as drug trafficking and the trafficking of human beings, and to diminish the unacceptable death toll of migrants at sea.
