More than two-thirds of the lawmakers in Germany's parliament voted on the 29 June 2012 to approve the permanent euro rescue fund, the European Stability Mechanism, and the Fiscal Pact long championed by Chancellor Angela Merkel. However, the treaties still faced a review by the country's Constitutional Court before they could be ratified by Germany.
