Merkel swings behind Sarkozy poll bid

Angela Merkel, German chancellor, gave full backing to Nicolas Sarkozy’s bid for re-election as President of France on the 6 February 2012, saying her controversial stance was quite normal among leaders from 'friendly' political parties. She took part in a joint TV interview with the French President.
