Directive 2009/125/EC establishing a framework for the setting of ecodesign requirements for energy-related products came fully into force on the 1 January 2015.

The Ecodesign Directive provides consistent EU-wide rules for improving the environmental performance of energy related products (ERPs) through eco-design.

It prevents disparate national legislation on the environmental performance of these products from becoming obstacles to the intra-EU trade. This should benefit both businesses and consumers, by enhancing product quality and environmental protection and by facilitating free movement of goods across the EU.
