Sweden instated new controls on the border to Denmark over the Oresund Bridge at midnight on the 3 January 2016 as it tried to cope with the big migrant influx: another nail in the coffin of the Schengen zone? Malcolm Brabant reported from Copenhagen. The Swedish Government decided on the 7 January 2016 to prolong internal border controls from 10 January to 8 February 2016. The Government's assessment was that the conditions on which the earlier decisions were taken still applied. The Government intended to review whether there is still a need after 8 February 2016 to further prolong the internal border controls. |
