The European Parliament's plenary session approved a non-binding resolution on 1 December 2016 urging the European Commission to revise its code of conduct for Commissioners, to ensure that their declarations of interests give a complete picture of the financial situation and activities of a Commissioner and his or her family, MEPs defended that the 'cooling off' period for ex-Commissioners should be prolonged to 36 months, against the initial proposal by the president of the Commission of 24 months. They also called for a bigger role for the Parliament's legal affairs committee in analysing the declarations of financial interests. |
