Occupational pension funds: Council adopts new rules

On 8 December 2016, the Council adopted a directive on institutions for occupational retirement provision (IORPs), aimed at facilitating their development and better protecting pension scheme members and beneficiaries.

The directive improved the governance and transparency of IORPs and facilitated their cross-border activities. Safer and more efficient occupational pensions enhanced the contribution of complementary savings to retirement incomes.
