Osborne calls for legal safeguards for ‘euro-outs’

Preview and report of a speech by the United Kingdom Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne to German business leaders at the Association of German Industry (BDI) conference in Berlin on the 3 November 2015 as part of the wish by the UK government to renegotiate its relationship with the European Union prior to the country holding a referendum on its membership of the Union.

In particular, Mr Osborne said that the UK did not want 'ever closer union' with the EU and also wanted legally-binding safeguards for the single market and a commitment not to 'discriminate' against countries not in the euro if it was to remain in the EU.
