According to EurActiv on the 10 March 2014, French Minister for Economy and Finance Pierre Moscovici was set to put virtual currencies on the EU agenda, as they expand their presence in the financial world.

Tracfin, France's anti-money laundering unit, published a report on 11 July 2014 calling for greater regulation of virtual currencies, the most famous of which is Bitcoin, and to make their use is more transparent.
