France’s determination to clamp down on executive bonuses appeared to harden on the 24 March 2009 as the business and political establishment came out in full cry against the €3.2m golden parachute awarded to departing Valeo boss Thierry Morin. The outcry reflects a growing tide of opposition in Europe to executive bonuses as job losses mount and governments bail out banks and car companies. Germany has passed a law to make executive pay more transparent, while also the 24 March 2009 Sweden said it planned to ban bonuses in state companies. |
