Former Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło survived a vote of censure in the Polish Parliament but ended up removed from office by the political committee of her Law and Justice (PiS) party just a couple of hours later. Party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski named minister Mateusz Morawiecki as the new head of government, who was officially sworn in on 11 December 2017 and aprroved by the Parliament one day later.

A number of new ministers were sworn in on 9 January 2018, in what was seen as a sweeping cabinet reshuffle aiming at mending ties with the EU authorities. On the same day, Mr Morawiecki held a meeting with the European Commission President to discuss migration, the rule of law and the overall role of Poland in the European Union.

Reports and commentary on the appointment of Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in December 2017, followed by a cabinet reshuffle in January 2018.
