On 6 November 2015, the European Commission issued guidance on transatlantic data transfers and urges the swift establishment of a new framework following the ruling in the Schrems case.

Politico and other media sources reported in January 2016 that a new agreement was on likely to be concluded by the end of the month, despite initial expectations.
