Press Release: Commission issues report on progress in Romania under the Co-operation and Verification Mechanism

The European Commission on 22 January 2014 issued a report on the progress in Romania under the Co-operation and Verification Mechanism (CVM). The report presents the Commission's analysis on the steps Romania has taken in the past twelve months and shows where further steps are needed.

This report assesses the recent progress made by Romania in the two core CVM areas of judicial reform and anti-corruption work.

The report considered that Romania media had made a "step forward", but according to EUObserver on the 27 January 2014, leading journalists disagreed.
