Press Release: Commission welcomes agreement on new emissions standards for off-road diesel engines

The European Commission welcomed the agreement reached on 21 October 2003by the European Parliament and the Council on a Directive to reduce emissions from diesel engines used in off road machinery (such as excavators and other construction equipment), locomotives, railcars and inland waterway vessels. The Directive will tighten emission standards for these engines in light of technological developments and their contribution to air pollution.
