On 24 June 2015, the European Commission decided to appoint Alexander Italianer as new Secretary-General following Catherine Day's decision to retire from active service as of 1 September 2015. The Commission also decided to reshuffle its senior management team. Following its re-organisation in November 2014, the decision represented a further step in gearing the European Commission towards effective delivery. It concluded an inclusive process set in motion by the President of the Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, in March 2015. |
