On 21 April 2015, the Council of the European Union expressed its grave concern regarding the deteriorating situation in FYR Macedonia, in particular in the area of rule of law, fundamental rights and freedom of media, which are considered to be core democratic values at the heart of the EU and its enlargement policy.

The Council recalled its conclusions regarding this country at the meeting of 16 December 2014.
