Press Release: EU response to Greece dominates debate on outgoing Latvian presidency

A plenary debate was held in the European Parliament (EP) on 7 July 2015 regarding the outgoing Latvian presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Latvian prime minister Laimdota Straujuma discussed the challenges and the achievements of the outgoing Council presidency with the members of the EP and the president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker. Greece and the referendum on the bail-out proposals were however the focus of the discussion.

On the same day, a Eurougroup meeting was scheduled, followed by an extraordinary Eurozone summit, both having the Greek economic situation as the only topic of the agenda.
