On 14 April 2014, the European Commission welcomed adoption by the European Union's Council of Ministers of a new Directive to ensure the better application at national level of EU citizens' right to work in another Member State. The new rules, proposed by the Commission in April 2013, aimed to bridge the gap between rights and reality and would make it easier for people working or looking for a job in another country to exercise their rights in practice.
