The European Parliament approved in plenary on 27 October 2015 a resolution that defends a thorough investigation on the emissions testing fraud unveiled in the previous month and appropriate sanctions to those responsible.

MEPs stated that the EU emissions testing system should be strengthened to ensure that EU emission limits were respected and that vehicles exceeding these limits were discovered quickly. They also recommended considering whether to establish an EU-level surveillance authority.
