Press Release: Towards Energy Union: The Commission presents sustainable energy security package

The European Commission unveiled on 16 February 2016 a package of measures connected to energy security, in the framework of its Energy Union strategy. It followed another package released during summer in 2015.

These proposals were seen as necessary to equip the European Union for global energy transition as well as to be prepared for possible energy supply interruptions.

The packaged proposed by the EC consists of:

+ a Security of Gas Supply Regulation;
+ a decision on Intergovernmental Agreements in energy;
+ a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and gas storage strategy;
+ a Heating and Cooling strategy.
