On the 20 February 2014 a new report from the European Commission painted a worrying picture of Europe's seas. The analysis, which was to be presented at the 'Healthy Oceans – Productive Ecosystems' (HOPE) conference in Brussels on 3-4 March 2014, showed a marine environment that would require urgent efforts to reach good status by 2020.
