Private equity funds must be regulated, says EU

The European Commission is committed to ensuring that private equity funds, as well as hedge funds, are regulated, European Commission President Jose-Manuel Barroso told European parliamentarians in a letter January 2009. The parliamentarians contrasted this with the more nuanced approach of the Internal Market Commissioner Charlie McCreevy.
