Further information:

Spain submitted an application for a financial contibution in the frameworm of the EGF on 19 July 2017 and the European Commission concluded that the conditions for awarding a financial contribution from the EGF were met, following an assessment.

The former employees were made redundant by five firms in the municipality of Ordes in Galicia. Increased imports of textiles and clothing into the EU forced down prices, which caused the manufacturers to produce more offshore in lower-cost, non-EU countries.

The European Commission proposed on 28 November 2017 the allocation of a financial contribution from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund to support redundancies in the clothing sector in Spain.

The European Parliament's budget committee approved the allocation of this contribution on 22 February 2018.
